Somerfield is a high street supermarket with stores in many prominent locations throughout the UK. In the current competitive food retail market Somerfield has focused on its clear strength: providing shoppers with an easy alternative to the larger out-of-town supermarkets whilst maintaining a commitment to fresh quality foods. The supply chain function plays a vital role in this business plan.
In order to focus on its priorities, Somerfield’s decision to expand this function created the need to recruit experienced supply chain personnel.
Academy researched and coordinated a selection campaign utilising a wide range of publications and media to produce a high calibre and relevant response to satisfy the business need. This campaign was based on National, Local and Trade Press and over 400 CV responses were received. . These were sifted using predictive KPIs to produce a shortlist of 110 candidates. The second stage of the process, which was conducted by Academy, assessed candidates’ suitability against 6 competencies, which had been agreed with Somerfield. It consisted of a face-to-face interview supported by psychometric and aptitude tests. This process ensured that Somerfield’s final decisions at 2nd interview stage were relatively easy to make and they subsequently appointed 28 people.
